Abeokuta: Wars and the founding of an an historical town By Anago James Akeem Osho

Abeokuta is an historically important town in Africa. It is located in the South West of Nigeria. It was founded around 1830 by the Yorubas who left the hinterland as a result of the Owu war of 1821-1827. Majority of those who first settled there were the Egbas and other groups like the Owus followed them although at first in small numbers until around 1834, when Sodeke, the head of the town heared that the Owu's are heading toward Whydah to resettle. He met the Owu's whom were the lead characters in the Owu wars to settle down in Abeokuta with them. The Owu leader responded to Sodeke that the IFA oracle instructed them to settle down near a river. And excitingly, Sodeke reminded them of the Ogun river in Abeokuta. They settled down there but some members of the group did not stayed but rather continued their journey to Whydah, hence today just as there are Owu Abeokuta, Owu Kuta, Orile Owu, etc. There is Owu Whydah in today's Republic of Benin. The Owus settled in...

Yoruba Slaves: The biggest numbers taken to the Americas By Anago James Akeem Osho

Anago Osho re-enacted an enslaved scene It is no more news that many enslaved people were stolen away from Africa against their will. The Arabs organized the trans Saharan human chattel trafficking that lasted for about 1,400 years. They were selling enslaved Africans to the Europeans at a time to places like Italy, Spain etc. The Europeans understudied the Arabs and perfected the art of human trafficking that lasted for about 300-400 years. The biggest slave port is not the issue because if the Arabs sold enslaved Africans for about 1,400 years, we should know that it would have been huge. Both East, Central, West and some Southern Africans were devastated by them. Remember the migrations from Egypt, Nubia, etc. to West Africa. Many of our Ancestors were taken from Congo, Angola, Gabon and other places in that region. I don't know why some scholars in their classification of where the enslaved were taken from also classify these places as one place. Maybe the Belgians should tell ...

Why enslaved Africans jumped into the sea during the middle passage By Anago James Akeem Osho

The act of jumping into the sea from the slave ships by enslaved Africans during the middle passage was an act of resistance. Africans resisted from the first forceful capture. The first Africans that were forcefully captured by the Portuguese sailors from around 1441 or 1444 arrived Portugal with bruises and wounds all over their bodies and Prince Henry the Navigator lamented over the ill treatment but later played along when he realized the economic benefit of enslaving other human beings.

Walter C. Carrington, former U.S Ambassador on a Slave history tour with Anago Osho

The American embassy is very popular in Nigeria, especially the consulate in Lagos. The name Walter Carington is synonymous to the American embassy. The bearer of the name has passionate love for Lagos and Nigeria. As an ambassador and even after retirement his name continued to be a household name and he never stopped coming back to Nigeria. Who is Walter Carrington? He was the United States Ambassador to Senegal from 1980 to 1981. In 1993, the U.S President, Bill Clinton appointed him as the U.S Ambassador to  Nigeria till 1997. His tenure as ambassador was graced by very cordial international relationship between Nigeria and the United States.  He has been visiting Nigeria (since the 1960s) before becoming an American Ambassador to any country in Africa. Some argued that he had done his DNA, and he is Yoruba.  The former American Ambassador to Nigeria and Senegal, Walter Carrington, his wife, Arese Carrington, and friends were on Anago James Akeem Osho Adventures's sla...

YOUTHS AND THE USE OF THE MIND? By Anago James Akeem Osho

What is wrong with young peoples minds? Nothing is wrong but scale of preference and values, either tangible or non tangible. Physical or spiritual. When you go back to history and see where we are coming from. You may realize that Africans and youths of the world are daily polluting their minds with activities that are devoid of development. Yet, not all youths are engaged in such animosity. Some think they are better and know more than others because of their religious affiliation? It is glaring that the sacred books taughr us better than that. Do not follow men, follow the divine and use your mind creatively for the development of the earth. The hope of Africa for instance are its outstanding youths. In every land on the African continent that i have traveled to, the youths are not empowered and they just watch and try to survive by ''doing anything'', traveling abroad to make ends meet and care for their families and often time meet their water loo.  See...
