The first International Tour Guides Day In Nigeria celebrated by WATGA-NIGERIA

The first ever International Tour Guides Day in Nigeria was celebrated in Badagry by West African Tour Guides Association Nigeria (WATGA-NIGERIA) on the 21st of February 2017, and the support by members and tourism practitioners was encouraging. The event began with an opening prayer by Mr Ijinla at the Heritage Museum. The introduction speech and purpose for the celebration of International Tour Guides day was presented by the President, Anago James Akeem Osho. He gave words of encouragement to the participants and the importance of tour guiding in tourism destination development. Mr Peter Olaide-Mesewaku was excited about the celebration and the fact that the first ITGD in Nigeria was held in Badagry, Lagos. Lagos state ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism supported the event and promised to be a part of the event annually. WEST AFRICAN TOUR GUIDES ASSOCIATION NIGERIA (WATGA-NIGERIA)

West Africa Tour Guides Association Nigeria (WATGA-NIGERIA), is a member of the fledging West African regional Tour Guide Association known as West Africa Tour Guides Association / Association des guides touristiques de l'Afrique de l'Ouest ( WATGA/AGTAO). WATGA-NIGERIA was accepted to West Africa Tour Guides Association on the 1st of April, 2017 through the President of Tour Guide Nigeria, Anago James Akeem Osho (former member of the UNIDO/UNWTO COAST PROJECT demo-site management committee 1999-2014, founder of Anago Osho Adventures, President of WATGA-NIGERIA). The membership of WATGA-NIGERIA is blossoming and the group is eager to partner with both local and international tour guides groups to promote the profession of tour guiding. Member countries includes Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote D'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.
