NATOP Lagos training, very impactful




It's a new dawn for tour operators in Nigeria as the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators (NATOP), with numerous activities lined up for the year, organized a training themed "Tour Operation Management" facilitated by Nigeria Institute of Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), and it should be highlighted that the wonderful team added value to the event which was held on the 20th of February, 2023 at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island Lagos.
The training was decleared open by NATOP President, Mrs Ime Udo, who admonished every participants to take advantage of the training. 45 trainees participated in the training that consists of topics such as, Tour formulation, Package tour, Tour pricing and Pricing strategies, Technology in tour development, Partnerships and collaborations, and Connecting the value Chain. 




It was indeed an executive training as CEO's, directors, and top management staffs of tour companies attended the full day event. The training was an eye opener and the smiles on the faces of participants speaks contentment. Everyone was satisfied and in unison said they didn't expect less and were all glad that they have added to their knowledge. According to Abimbola Sowunmi of Travel Arcade, "the training was very impactful. Everyone went home with a lot of knowledge".

Ambassador Anago Osho was the program compere and he did justice to time management. After the training, some NATOP Executive members like Mrs Odion Chigbufue of Tour Brokers International, Mr Davis O. Lamidi of Diamonds and Pearls Travels and Mrs Bolaji Mustapha of Grand Express Tour Centre (GETCENTRE), were given three minutes each to share the secrets of their success in the tour operation industry. They all mentioned consistency, passion for work, innovation and integrity in their comments. Mrs Ime Udo, NATOP President, encouraged tour operators to find a niche that will distinguish their companies. 


It was a delightful and wow! atmosphere when the Director-General and CEO of National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), the Turakin Kebbi, Nura Sani Kangiwa visited the venue of the training in Lagos despite his busy schedule. He admonished tour operators to uphold their importance in sustainable tourism development in Nigeria. He went further to say that he would never have forgiven himself if he had missed the second training. 

The organisers of NATOP Lagos training should be applauded, from Madam President, Mrs Ime Udo, Mrs Bolaji Mustapha, Micheal Balogun, Anago Osho, Mrs Joy Alexander-Okwuegbe, Cordis-Maria  Umeokwoli and Mrs Odion Chigbufue for a job well done.

It is the capital of Benin republic and is situated on the West African Coast. The word Porto Novo is a Portuguese word which means New port. The Portuguese were the first European to settle down there. Porto Novo is also known as Ajase (Ajace) by the Yorubas, and known as Hogbonu by the Ogu. Porto Novo was established in the 16th Century. It was a Slave port controlled by the Alaafin of Oyo. The Oyo Empire was a great empire which also controlled the Slave port of Badagry. It partly controlled the Slave port of Whydah (Ouidah) for a period before Whydah was completely taken over by the Dahomey Kings.
