WEST AFRICAN TOUR GUIDES ASSOCIATION NIGERIA (WATGA-NIGERIA)

West Africa Tour Guides Association Nigeria (WATGA-NIGERIA), is a member of the fledging West African regional Tour Guide Association known as West Africa Tour Guides Association / Association des guides touristiques de l'Afrique de l'Ouest ( WATGA/AGTAO).

WATGA-NIGERIA was accepted to West Africa Tour Guides Association on the 1st of April, 2017 through the President of Tour Guide Nigeria, Anago James Akeem Osho (former member of the UNIDO/UNWTO COAST PROJECT demo-site management committee 1999-2014, founder of Anago Osho Adventures, President of WATGA-NIGERIA).

The membership of WATGA-NIGERIA is blossoming and the group is eager to partner with both local and international tour guides groups to promote the profession of tour guiding.

Member countries includes Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote D'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. The regional office is in Ghana and founded by

Nii Kpako Allotei-Cofie.

The members of WATGA-NIGERIA benefits from the connection with other West African countries and affiliate international organizations like World Federation of Tour Guides Association.
 
On the 19th of December, 2016, during the LAGOS TOURISM SUMMIT, Anago Osho represented tour guides and suggested that every tour guides should be identified and registered by both the state and federal government for professionalism, safety and protection of tourists lives and properties.

WATGA-NIGERIA hold training in high esteem to promote professionalism in the tour guide industry. Among many aims of WATGA-NIGERIA is to put tourism and tour guiding in the realm of respected proffessions in the world.

It is the capital of Benin republic and is situated on the West African Coast. The word Porto Novo is a Portuguese word which means New port. The Portuguese were the first European to settle down there. Porto Novo is also known as Ajase (Ajace) by the Yorubas, and known as Hogbonu by the Ogu. Porto Novo was established in the 16th Century. It was a Slave port controlled by the Alaafin of Oyo. The Oyo Empire was a great empire which also controlled the Slave port of Badagry. It partly controlled the Slave port of Whydah (Ouidah) for a period before Whydah was completely taken over by the Dahomey Kings.
